Ah Lam got married to 吳 正 元 in U.S. at 1980. He had two children, one boy 德正 (1985 March 6th) and one girl 德薏 (1986 March 5th). He had been constantly delivering hits after hits. In the 1980's, he reigned along with Alan Tam, Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung as one of the most famous singers in Hong Kong.

Aside from singing, Lam also starred in many movies.

Ah Lam had held several series of concerts which are quite successful. HK audience seem to accept his style of holding a concert--neither too much fanfares nor gadgets but just a string of good songs and a full-fledged effort. He just held a 20-year anniversary concert at 1995.

Being a popular singer and sometimes actor, he is disproportionally low-profile. Interviews are rarely conducted. As a result, he might give an impression of being aloof and reserved. However, many colleagues had confirmed that once he is familiar with someone, he can be quite friendly. It is quite well known that he is not very fluent in the Chinese language. One will more aptly describe him as the "strong and silent type". Also, he is considered quite well dressed.

By the end of 1990, he had finished 6 series of concerts.

In the 1990's, Lam had been constantly producing one or two album per year. In recent years, several significant events happened:
Joined EMI again.
Divorced 吳 正 元 in 1994.
Married Sally Yeh, one of the most famous female singers in the 1980's.
In 1999, Ah Lam was arrested in an airport duty free shop for shoplifting a pair of sun glasses. Ah Lam decided to plea guilty and have the matters done with in the quickest manner. However, he had expressed regret on the plea and would have done otherwise by maintaining his innocence.
